MGM GRAND DETROIT DONATES NEW WINTER COATS, HATS, AND GLOVES TO 2,000 CHILDREN FROM THE DETROIT AREA THROUGH ITS 9TH HOLIDAY COMMUNITY COAT DISTRIBUTION
11/25/2008
DETROIT – November 25, 2008 - MGM Grand Detroit today donated brand new winter coats, hats, and gloves to 2,000 children through more than 55 community partner organizations. Since the inception of the initiative nine years ago MGM Grand Detroit has donated 54,000 pieces of winter outerwear to 18,000 area children.
"We are proud of our record of community service as it relates to helping to improve the quality of life for children in our region," said Dee Dee McKinney Odom, MGM Grand Detroit Director of Community Affairs. "Thanks to the help of our partners and the hard work of our dedicated team members, we were once again able to make sure that 2,000 more children in our area will have the items they need to stay warm during Michigan's bitter cold winter months."
The more than 55 partner organizations picked up the winter coats, hats, and gloves from MGM Grand Detroit today between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon. Representatives from each organization will then distribute the coats, hats, and gloves to youth – ages 14 and under – who were pre selected to receive them.
Among those organizations were Butzel Family Center, Columbus Middle School, Grace Center of Hope, and Vista Nuevas Head Start Program.
"We understand that one of the worst feelings for any parent is not being able to shower their children with gifts and big meals during the holidays," said McKinney Odom. "It can destroy a person's spirit because our children don't understand the economy."
"This is our way to spread cheer as far as we can throughout the community this holiday season."
