TEAM FROM TAP AT MGM GRAND DETROIT PLACES FIRST IN GREAT LAKES REGIONAL CHILI COOKOFF

10/15/2012
The culinary team representing TAP at MGM Grand Detroit recently won first place at the 2012 17th Annual Great Lakes Chili Cookoff in Plymouth. The six-member team won in the Restaurant Chili Challenge, an event in which they placed second last year, their first time competing.

The team, which included MGM Grand Detroit’s Executive Chef Michael Urbin, Banquet Chef Alejandro Garza, Banquet Manager Terri Zyskowski, Garde Manger Chef James May, and Banquet Stewarding Team Members Egypt Dukes and Sherry Beal won for their Short Rib Chili. Made from ingredients including ancho chili peppers, short rib beef and bacon, the chili is currently featured on the menu at the newly opened TAP, an eclectic sports-themed restaurant offering handcrafted beers, traditional pub fare and Midwest-inspired comfort food.

“I am incredibly proud of our team for their hard work and enthusiasm for this event,” said Chef Urbin. “We had a lot of fun participating and commend the 19 other teams for their creative dishes.”

Winners were determined by votes from event attendees.

The Cookoff was hosted by Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc. a nonprofit organization that holds chili cook-offs to benefit charities and other organizations in southeast Michigan. Since its inception, more than $275,000 has been raised.
