“TAP” Slated for Fall 2012 Opening at MGM Grand Detroit
Unique Pub Will Celebrate City’s Industrial Age and Sports Heritage
Detroit – July 23, 2012 – MGM Grand Detroit, the city’s premier entertainment destination, announced today the fall 2012 grand opening of its newest restaurant, TAP. With its eclectic and stylish sports theme, this unique pub will offer handcrafted beers and comfort food prepared by notable chefs.
“TAP promises to be unlike any other sports pub,” said Steve Zanella, general manager of MGM Grand Detroit. “It will be a comfortable place to enjoy inspired menu offerings and high-quality beer, and capture the passion of a great sports town where people love and support their teams. TAP will remind metro Detroiters of the city’s early days, yet still have 21st century appeal.”
Nestled between the property’s hotel and casino, the new 9,500-square-foot restaurant’s design concept celebrates Detroit’s industrial age with interiors made of concrete, wood and steel. Pressed tin ceilings and reclaimed wine barrel tables will add to the distinctive ambience of the innovative space, created by architect Rainey Hamilton and interior designer Richard McCormick of Michigan-based design firm Hamilton Anderson.
Hamilton said: “TAP will feel like a collage of favorite places and experiences for guests, and help them create fond memories of the time they spend there. TAP will be a rare blend of cool and comfortable.”
Divided into three areas -- a large bar, main dining room with 292 seats, and private dining room for 100 -- the heart of the venue is the bar that was inspired by vintage lockers and old world bottles. A curated collection of 50 beers, including locally sourced brands, and other specialty drinks will be available year round.
The kitchen, situated near the bar, will establish a connection with guests, allowing them to watch as chefs prepare modern American classics.
Music and sports enthusiasts will gather for live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays and for game-day viewing on TAP’s 30 flat-screen televisions. Complimentary Wi-Fi will allow guests to stay connected. Families with children, who will enter through the hotel, also will enjoy the restaurant’s warm atmosphere.
