Detroit, Mich. — Mason Elementary School students will have an extra incentive to attend class on the district’s official count day scheduled for Wednesday, September 29. MGM Grand Detroit and its team members will partner with the school for the official kick-off of the “Touching Communities, Touching Lives” Bus Tour. The kick-off event will feature fun, food and education-focused activities for all students.
“At MGM Grand Detroit, we understand the importance and value of all the students being in attendance on count day,” said Dee Dee McKinney Odom, Director of Public Affairs for MGM Grand Detroit. “This is a critical time for Detroit Public Schools and we have made it our mission to be a part of the charge to ensure all students are accounted for.”
Highlights of the day’s activities include:
• Lunch for students and staff provided by MGM Grand Detroit
• Storytelling
• Educational games
• Playground activities
• School supply giveaway
“There is a genuine excitement among the Mason Elementary teachers and students. We, at Mason, are committed to ensuring academic success under the district’s rigorous academic plan, which includes 120 minutes of English Language Arts, 90 minutes of mathematics and more. The donated supplies are truly needed and will help us meet our goals,” said Mason Elementary Principal Omega Mostyn. “We appreciate and recognize the significance of a local corporate organization, like MGM Grand Detroit, taking on the challenge to help us make sure that all students are counted so we can receive the appropriate funding and so that students benefit from being in class every day. We are humbled and honored that MGM Grand Detroit has selected Mason as their partner.”
The “Touching Communities, Touching Lives” Bus Tour will hold its next event, Fall Coat Harvest, in October. Fall Coat Harvest provides much needed hats, coats and gloves to metro Detroit youth for winter.
